Moving Ahead with Megayacht Marina
By Christina Bohnstengel

One developer in Canada refuses to buy into negative economic concerns as he forges ahead with plans for a luxury, megayacht marina. Victoria International Marina developer Bob Evans has big plans—$20 million worth—which include a 50-berth Inner Harbour marina that will house $300 million worth of megayachts.
Pending final approval from Transport Canada and the Integrated Lands Management Bureau, the first 55-metre ship is expected to dock off of Songhees in the summer of 2010.
Some community and environmental activist are hoping to have their concerns heard and validated at a public meeting on February 17, but Evans expects minimal opposition. Since Evan’s predicts that even at half-capacity the megayacht marina would bring $50 million into Victoria’s local economy, the luxury yachting facility is likely to be viewed as a welcomed boon for the suffering local tourism industry.
