Abu Dhabi Yacht Show Opens This Week
By Kris A. Moore

This weekend a superyacht show will be held in Abu Dhabi featuring 20 luxury yachts that will total about $500 million. The event will be held at the National Exhibition Centre and will commence on Thursday, March 12. This event will be the first of its kind and it aims to become one of the most established luxury yacht shows in the world. More than 5,000 visitors and guests are expected for this inaugural event.
Despite the global recession, the Abu Dhabi Yacht Show will feature 90 different exhibitors from 25 different countries. There will be two highlights at this event. The first is a megayacht named the Alysia that is 85 meters long and includes a helipad, whirlpool, swimming pool, and steam rooms; it will be available for purchase for $100 million. The second vessel named the Silver is 73 meters and will be available for $80 million.
The event is expected to draw a large crowd due to declining home values, an economic factor that has contributed to yachts becoming the new standards in terms of liquid assets, putting them in very high demand. It has reached the point where some shipyards are actually booked for the next five years.
