While megayachts, unlike their sailing counterparts, may not be high-up on the “green” scale, with mega-fuel consumption being one of their attributes, a trend towards environmentally friendly yachting is emerging. The new Soliloquy is taking this trend to the next level. Designed by Alastair Callender of Coventry University, the yacht will get its power from a combination of wind, solar, and Hybrid Marine Power technology from Solar Saillor Holdings Ltd.

The use of renewable and hybrid-electric energy will bring zero-emission capabilities and result in greater savings in fuel costs. The innovative overhead beam not only adds to the overall aesthetics, but also houses three automated and pivotally mounted, rigid-wing solar sails. The rigid wing rig and architecturally dynamic form will be an inimitable sight to all mariners. The patented technology and automation of Solar Sailor Holdings Ltd’s solarsail pivot, combined with Callender’s highly-efficient design, will enhance the yacht’s propulsion.

this is a pretty cool looking yacht. It kind of looks like a sail-yacht without the sails. What about integrating the sail-less sails of the old Jach Cousteau sail boat. The one that used not sails but a mast that sort of collected the wind and moved the boat. I forget the exact specs of the boat but then again it has been over 20 years and I have never seen another like it, but it was interesting to see to say the least.
