World’s Top 10 Megayachts

By Allison Medoff

The world’s top 10 megayachts just released by ABC News have some features that clearly set them apart from those other ordinary superyachts flooding the seas.  Continuously outdoing one another, the top ten are featured below.
Ranking number one is the world’s largest yacht in the world at 557 feet, born out of Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg Germany. The Eclipse boasts a secret getaway submarine, a missile detection system, bulletproof windows and two helicopter landing pads.  This beauty of a beast is rumored to be owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.
Holding spot number two is The Dubai.  Former world’s largest yacht at 524 feet, built by Blohm + Voss, it was considered the most expensive yacht in the world during its time at $300 million in 2006.  This yacht also has a submarine, though nowhere near the caliber of its successor.
The third largest yacht in the world is the Al Said at 508 feet, owned by Sultan Qaboos of Oman.  Home to a concert hall big enough to fit a 50-piece orchestra, most of the deck space on board is enclosed and air-conditioned to bear the Middle eastern weather.
In at number four is Prince Abdulaziz, 482 feet, which held the title as largest yacht in the world for more than 10 years after it launched in 1984.  Originally built for King Fahd of Saudi Arabia, now deceased, the yacht has passed hands to his brother, King Abdullah.
The oldest ship on the list at number five is the El Horriya, built in 1865 at the Samuda Brothers shipyard in London, for the king of Egypt. The ship currently resides in Alexandria.
Number six is the 456-foot Al Salamah, owned by Defense Minister Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz.  With more than 80 rooms spanning eight decks, and a fully equipped hospital, the estimated worth of this ship is $200 million.
With an internet fan base, the Rising Sun, at 454 feet long, sits at number seven on the list. Home to a wine cellar, and basketball court the ship has duel owners, head of Oracle Corp., Larry Ellison, and record executive David Geffen.
Number eight on the list is an award winner, holding last years Motor Yacht of the Year award and an award for its interior design by Andrew Winch. The Al Mirqab is 436 feet long and is owned by the prime minister of Qatar.
At number nine, the Octopus is the busiest ship on the list, traveling throughout the world.  Fans can track its whereabouts on a specialized website, and monitor her condition, recently furbished with a new paint job. The 413-foot vessel is owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen.
Bringing up the rear, but not to be outdone is Savarona, 408 feet long, 75 years old and still moving.  Travel to the port of choice while relaxing in a Turkish bath or marveling at the stained glass central ceiling.
