Benetti’s newest model, the Vision 145′ BV018 ‘Checkmate’, was just launched from the historic Darsena Italia Basin. Checkmate is only the 15th superyacht to be built for the top-tier Vision line.
After the traditional champagne bottle was broken across her bows, the yacht dipped smoothly into the Mediterranean via a custom-built ramp to the backdrop of Giuseppe Verdi’s “Và Pensiero.” Checkmate’s owner, a well-known surgeon from Washington D.C., and his family were present for the ceremony.
The vessel that took two years to construct is almost 44 meters long and has a nine-meter beam. It boasts twin 1,300-horsepower Caterpillar engines with a top speed of 15 knots and a cruising range of more than 3,500 nautical miles.
