Fire investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire that destroyed a $60 million yacht at the Auckland shipyard in Mt. Wellington Sunday around 1 a.m.
Arson and foul play have been ruled out, and fire fighters continued to dampened down hot spots early Monday. The fire started externally at the center of the vessel, and whether it was a chemical or electrical cause is still under question.
The 50-meter, four-story superyacht still had a year to go for completion, and although some areas weren’t damaged, the damage is very extensive.
The yacht would have been able to accommodate 12 guests and 12 crew members and housed an astonishing 15 toilets and an outdoor cinema area. The owner commissioned the yacht for private and chartering use.
