The 590-foot mega yacht dubbed Azzam is already a contender for the title of largest yacht in the world, and it’s not even due to launch until next year.
It’s currently under construction at German shipyard Lurssen, and to give you a scope of what 590 feet equates to, think one and a half football fields—and a basketball court.
But despite its early notoriety, Azzam’s progress has been kept a secret. Lurssen, known for its discretion, declined to comment on the ship’s construction, and the owner of the ship is still under speculation. He or she could be part of the royal family, according to industry executives.
Early pictures show the vessel to be at least six stories tall, and its propulsion system will be powered by four giant water jets rather than propellers like most yachts.
Azzam means “determination” in Arabic, and no other yacht currently under construction could match her.
