Paul Allen and his super yacht ‘Octopus’ are set for a post-Olympics expedition of the seas with the British Royal Navy.
The Microsoft founder is loaning his yacht to authorities in hopes of finding the bell of the sunken HMS Hood, which was lost when the battlecruiser was attacked and immediately went down during World War II in 1941. A total of 1,415 passengers lost their lives.
If the mission is successful, the British government will display the bell in honor of those who died at sea.
In 2001, the sunken ship’s location was discovered 2,800 meters under water. The expedition is expected to last anywhere from three to 10 days.
