Simon Cowell, who gained most of his stardom as the original ‘tough’ judge on American Idol, rarely gets pinned as being a nice guy, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a hero.
Cowell responded to a May Day distress call Wednesday that led to the rescue of nine people stranded at sea after their boat sank off the South of France coast.
The 52-year-old music mogul and creator of the X Factor was vacationing with his ex girlfriend in St. Tropez when the incident occurred. He ordered the captain and crew of his private luxury charter to stage a rescue mission. He sent a smaller boat to ferry them across while his crew helped to pump water out of the faltering ship.
Cowell’s ex girlfriend, Sinatta, tweeted, “(@sinittaofficial): “Just had a mayday message, 35ft boat sinking. Simon has sent us to help and rescue 9 people on board!”
But the opinionated producer may want to watch his number of good deeds if he wants to keep his sullen reputation in tact. He previously aided a father-to-be, giving him a lift on his private jet so that he could witness the birth of his first child.
